You can still eat great food and lose weight….
1. Water Water Water…helps your liver with metabolism.
2. There are many ways to make the great dishes you love but you
can substitute some of the ingrediants with others.
3. Walk, Walk, Walk. for at least an hour a day. Start slow maybe 15 minutes in the morning and fifteen in the evening. And add 15 minute increments every 7 days until you get up to an 1 hour in the morning and an hour in the evening at least 5 days a week. You may only do 3 days a week for the first 2 weeks and then add a day a week until you are up to five days a week. Try to rest 1 day every 2 days. If you are very heavy you may want to start walking in a pool for about 4-6 weeks and then start walking outside or on a track/treadmill. And if you have access to a pool. Get in Chest High water and run from side to side.
4. You need to keep a food journal for at least 5 days so that you can
see exactly what you are eating. Every single thing that goes in
your mouth needs to be documented. The exact time of
consumption. Late night snacks need to be included. Every single
thing. You may find that you are over eating.
5. Avoid any fast food and resturants. The more you cook your own
food the better. Because you can modify the recipes as needed.
And watch your portions too.
6. Buy smaller plates. I recently bought my mom a new set of
dishes. I bought the exact same set about 6 years ago and the
salad plate/saucer is now the same size as the old set of dinner
plates. And the new dinner plates are the size of platters. Same
thing with the soup bowls and coffee mugs.
There is almost a 10oz difference! So you may want to invest in
buying some new dishes that remind you of the size
you used as a child.
7. Give your stomach time to shrink back to normal size. You may
have been overstreching it for a while and don’t know when you are
over eating.
8. Seek the help of other successful healthy weight losers and see
if there is a registered dietician/nutrionist on staff at your doctor’s
office. It is probably covered by your health insurance.

Susan B gave a great answer IMO, and I would say get started today! But I would like to add that it is worth personalising it to you, and giving some thought to why you eat as you do. What do you think is delicious food? How can you get pleasure from eating and still lose weight? simple things like drinking a glass of water before your meal will help you get a feeling of satisfaction with less actual food going in. The Weight Watchers programme in the UK helped me see what good habits I could cultivate to help me personally eg in my case planning ahead by not having cakes and biscuits in the cupboard to avoid immediate temptation. Washing a bowl of fruit in the morning so I always had something sweet to nibble on when peckish. I then (instead of following their Points based system) adopted their plan of eating anything I wanted from a huge list of foods (basically most basic foods so excluding processed foods, and limited added sugar, butter and cheese etc), and gradually reducing the quantities by paying attention to feelings of fullness so as not to eat excess quantities. It’s great that your husband is supporting you because sometimes friends and family can sabotage efforts to lose weight. Perhaps he and your doctor could help you find different ways to bring you happiness to help you not to try getting it only from food. For example, if you eat for comfort it helps to seek other ways to reduce your stress and feel better. I personally also know that if I eat more healthily I feel better anyway (and my children noticed fewer mood swings)!
